Call for Applications: Ladino Ambassador Program (2026)
We are pleased to announce the launch of Embashadores, our Ladino Ambassador Program, an initiative designed to support and empower community members who are passionate about the preservation, promotion, and revitalization of the Ladino language.
Ambassadors
For our inaugural cohort, we will select up to 5 ambassadors who will work with the American Ladino League over the course of the academic year to develop projects and initiatives that engage their communities with Ladino language and Sephardic culture.
Each ambassador will receive a $500 honorarium in recognition of their participation in the program, as well as a $250 stipend to support an event or initiative they organize as part of their ambassador Capstone Project.
The program will operate alongside the academic year, beginning with an orientation meeting in August and running from August through May.
Ambassadors will participate in monthly virtual training sessions led by our organization. These workshops will address a range of topics related to the Ladino language, with particular attention to community engagement, advocacy, and leadership within the broader movement for Ladino preservation. The sessions will also provide professional development opportunities, equipping participants with tools and strategies to connect with their chosen communities and successfully carry out their individual projects.
Throughout the program, ambassadors will receive ongoing mentorship and guidance from our organization’s leadership and colleagues engaged in language preservation efforts. This support will include opportunities to workshop ideas, develop initiatives, and connect with others working in the field through networking and collaboration.
The goal of the Ladino Ambassador Program is to strengthen connections among speakers, learners, and supporters of Ladino, while fostering new leadership and expanding community-based efforts to sustain and celebrate the language.
Criteria
Ladino speakers ages 18+ of any level and background are encouraged to apply. We seek applicants who are passionate about Ladino, committed to working with learners and speakers of the language, and interested in developing skills to raise awareness and organize programs.
