The Benmayor Collection of Sephardic Ballads

The Benmayor Collection of Sephardic Ballads and Other Lore is one of the most important audio archives for Ladino, preserving over 140 recordings of Sephardic Jews who were born and raised in Ottoman lands and later immigrated to the United States in the early 20th century. Collected beginning in 1972 by Dr. Rina Benmayor, the archive captures the language and traditions of a generation that largely transmitted Ladino orally.
