Everyone in the Ladino-speaking world knows that Rachel Amado Bortnick is a star. Now, she’s the star of her own documentary, produced by Denise Leon and directed by Fabian Soberon. Both filmmakers are based in Argentina.
“Los Muestros: Una pelicula sobre Rachel Amado” is a short film created as a tribute to the Izmir-born Bortnick, a revered Ladino educator, writer, translator, founder of Ladinokomunita, and co-director of the American Ladino League. Leon calls her “a living treasure who deserves every honor.” “Los Muestros” was filmed in Dallas, where Bortnick lives with her husband.
ALL will screen the documentary on Monday, December 7th as a special installment of ALL Authors, our event series which features writers, creators, and educators who engage with Ladino in the cultural sphere. After the film, which lasts 29 minutes, Leon and Soberon will speak about their project and take questions from the audience. And of course, muestra estreya, Rachel Amado Bortnick herself, will appear!
This virtual event will run from 7:00-8:15pm ET / 4:00-5:15pm PT, and is free to attend. The program will not be recorded.
Kol akavod to Denise and Fabian for creating this film. We can’t wait to see “Los Muestros”!
